The new deal goes into the 2026 tournament. Manchester United will receive more compensation from FIFA for releasing their players in future World Cups.

The club had 15 players in Qatar and received £2.15 million ($2.65 million) from world football's governing body through its Club Benefit Scheme as a result. Only Manchester City (£3.25m; $4m) and Chelsea (£2.32m; $2.86m) received more than United.

FIFA pays clubs for each day a person is absent on international duty during a tournament, and that figure will be significantly higher for the 2026 tournament in the US, Canada and Mexico.

The combined payments the clubs receive will almost double to 298.74 million pounds from 170.58 million pounds ($209 million), an increase of 120 million pounds ($146 million). The agreement is valid for the 2026 and 2030 editions.

The history of the Reds in the World Cup

United have had more than 10 players in each of the last two World Cups (11 entrants in 2018) and received roughly £5m combined from those two tournaments. The financial increase is part of a new Memorandum of Understanding between FIFA and the European Club Association (ECA) at the latter's general assembly in Budapest, Hungary.
