Historically Manchester United has been known for having the best players in the world, and as in other big clubs we have a number that is considered the most important in the team. For the Red Devils, the player who wears the number 7 on his back has to make a difference on the pitch, but for many years we have not had a world class player to do so, the last one being the legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

When Cristiano left the club for the first time in 2009, he left a huge hole that many players over the years would try to fill without success. Several have tried to fill that place and wear the number 7 jersey on a par with David Beckham and Eric Cantona, but all have fallen short.

In the past, players who promised to become the next big star of our Manchester United, such as Alexis Sanchez, Memphis Depay and Edinson Cavani, all fell far short of the expectations of the fans. However, perhaps the biggest disappointment in recent years who tried to fill that position was Argentine Angel Di Maria, who arrived from Real Madrid in 2014 as one of the best players in the world for whom the Old Trafford board paid €75 million.

But Di Maria was far from what he promised to be, as he played only one season with Manchester United in which he never managed to convince the coaching staff or the fans that he was the player who would return us to the top of the Premier League, so he only lasted one year at the club before leaving for PSG.

From world champion to having no team

Angel Di Maria was one of the most important pillars of the Argentine national team that won the world championship in Qatar 2022. Now it seems that nobody wants "Fideo", as so far there are no reports that any major European team wants to acquire him, despite the fact that he is a free agent.
