The prospective owner for Manchester United, already owner of a club in France, says the Premier League club will not pay an absurd price.

British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe claimed that he viewed United as a "community asset" rather than a financial one, suggesting that his pursuit of the Reds was different compared to other business investments. The prospective Red Devils owner is chief executive of Ineos and his team held talks with the club last Friday during a visit to Old Trafford and the Carrington training complex.

In an interview with a newspaper in the United States, the 70-year-old man commented on deciding the price of things and how the price of a product with great value is really defined and it is not related to how much it costs to make things. since what he does not want is to pay stupid prices for things because then you regret it.

However, Ratcliffe, who already owns French club Nice, said his interest in United would be purely in winning things, calling the club a "community asset". In November it was announced that United's owners, the Glazer family, were undergoing a strategic review and that sale was being considered.

Ratcliffe is one of two interested parties who have publicly announced their offers to Raine, the commercial bank hired to help the club assess the offers. The other is Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, whose delegation visited United the day before Ratcliffe's trip. Elliott Investment Management has also reportedly made it through to the second stage of the process, though the company is said to be offering financing rather than an acquisition.
