The much anticipated Europa League draw has been conducted and Manchester United is facing off against Sevilla in the quarterfinals round of the competition. The Red Devils beat Real Betis 1-0 last night to complete a 5-1 aggregate over the Spanish club.
But the latest draw has been everything but exciting for Manchester United fans as they anticipated an extremely tough challenge given Sevilla's history in the Europa League competition. The Spanish side has won the competition six times, making them the most successful team in the competition.
Manchester United's good form his season will be a big advantage for them heading into the tie as they hope to get a treble this season as the Premier League looks extremely out of reach for them after their last two poor results against Liverpool and Southampton.
In recent years, Sevilla won the Europa League in 2020 after winning it between 2014 to 2016. Manchester United's only triumph in the competition was in 2017 against Ajax, with Jose Mourinho as the manager as they completed a treble of Community Shield, Carabao Cup, and Europa League.
According to Squawka, a footballer data, and stat-centric brand, Manchester United has never won against Sevilla before. The Red Devils draw 0-0 in the Champions League, 2-1 loss in the Champions League, and another 2-1 loss in the Europa League.
