Manchester United set out to get the top spot in their final group stage match in the Europa like against Real Sociedad in Spain but things did not go as planned. United won the battle on the night with a brilliant goal by Alejandro Garnacho, with Cristiano Ronaldo providing the assist but they lost the war at the blast of the final wins.

United needed two wins by at least two goals ahead of Real Sociedad to book a guaranteed spot in the last 16 of the competition but failed to build on their one-goal lead. They were brutally outclassed but the Spanish side on all match stat except the most important one that secured all three points but was not enough to wash away the sad look on Ten Hag's face after 90 minutes.

A second-placed finish means that United will have to play an extra set of games against incoming Champions League dropouts, with a host of big teams as potential opponents. Ronaldo did play his part in getting United the win but the recent lack of emphatic scorelines or goals by the squad leaves Ten Hag with more concerns as his creators are not creating enough for the finishers to convert. With narrow wins in the last six matches despite United's eight-game unbeaten run has been a cause of concern for the fans.

So far the signs have been positive from results on the pitch, with United competing fiercely against top six oppositions, many believe that there's still a long way to go for the new team. The possibility of United being at the top of club football is a very exciting dream for fans as that is their only desire and it is the reason why United is fully backing the Ten Hag philosophy.
