With Cristiano Ronaldo now out of the club, Manchester United will make huge investment in January

Manchester United started the season with a lot of question marks in the media surrounding the future of their club legend, Cristiano Ronaldo after bringing in Erik Ten Hag as the new manager in the summer. This was a result of Ten Hag's preference for much younger players in his attacking setup.

The uncertainty regarding Ronaldo's future at the club has now been fully cleared after his contract was mutually terminated by the club over his recent media outburst against them and Ten Hag. His exit now affirms United's need to bring in a striker in January to maintain and add more firepower to their attacking threats.

The interest takes them to PSV Eindhoven for their club captain Cody Gakpo, who has been on the wishlist of a host of clubs across Europe. The 23 years captain doubles as a left-winger and a striker for the Dutch teammate and has been in terrific form this season.

Gakpo has been leading by example in this campaign with 13 goals and 17 assists at the club level, taking this total to 30 goal contributions just before the leagues across Europe where halted for the World Cup in Qatar. He was reportedly on United's list in the summer but they opted to go for Ajax Antony instead as a priority position.

WHAT IS GAKPO'S CURRENT SITUATION?

Gakpo is currently in Qatar as part of the Netherlands team for the FIFA World Cup. He made his World Cup debut against Senegal and marked the occasion with a beautiful opening goal of a delicate cross from Frenkie De Jong. His current market value is expected to rise further after the World Cup with his performance and United might require a huge fee to poach him from PSV in January as they hard initially maintained that they will only do a deal next summer.
