Cristiano Ronaldo has been the face and center of discussion over the last four months starting from the summer break when he was rumored to want out of Manchester United after they missed out on the Champions League.

The Portuguese star was linked with several clubs in Europe but London club Chelsea was reported to be the closest to getting his signature even though United's new manager Erik Ten Hag continually stated that he would love for Ronaldo to stay.

The move never happened and Ronaldo started the season with the Red Devils but quickly fell down the pecking order as Erik Ten Hag chose someone else to lead the United project. This situation became tricky between the pair with constant fallout and Ronaldo was let go by the club.

While the club and himself announced their decision the Portuguese captain was with his national team side as they prepared for the World Cup tournament in Qatar, as Ronaldo hoped to add it to his cabinet of trophies but he was betrayed at the most important moment.

WHO BETRAYED RONALDO AND WHAT HAPPENED?

The Portuguese star started the first two games of the World Cup for Portugal as they secured their qualification to the knock stages of the competition. His national team coach opted not to start him against Switzerland in the round of 16 games which they won. He then made the same decision in a more significant phase of the tournament against Morocco which backfired terribly as Portugal conceded in the first half after looking toothless attack until Ronaldo came on in the second half but it was too late as they failed to equalize.
