When Manchester United signed Cristiano Ronaldo last season from Juventus, the club broke the fastest-selling shirt in Premier League history with orders for the iconic number 7 shirts. It was a very worthy welcome-back moment for Ronaldo and most importantly the club.
His signing sent a statement of United resolve to head back into the elitist clubs' conversation after a mediocre couple of seasons under different managers with different players. Ronaldo went on to score 24 times to push United to the top-six finish and also won their player of the season award.
Fans go bunkers over mysterious act by United star
When he left, they felt it but United receive good news
Fast forward to now, the happy relationship has fully deteriorated to an enigma as United are exploring their legal advantage against their club legend following his recent comments about the clubs and their affairs in his media interview.
According to reports, the interview sealed the end to their once bright relationship, and united is looking to enforce a clean contract termination without pay with Ronaldo. The club is said to be prepared to use all other options on the table if he fails to agree.
It is believed that Ronaldo foresaw the club's possible line of actions against him when he conducted the interview and is readily prepared for whatever the outcome may be after his return from representing Portugal at what could potentially be his last World Cup. United are also reported to have been meticulous in evaluating all their legal avenues against him including a lawsuit for breach of contract.
