Frenkie De Jong came very close to a move to Manchester United last season

The transfer that has taken all the spotlight in Europe so far has been that of Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid, a team that paid more than 130 million euros to Borussia Dortmund to take the 19-year-old English midfielder.

Meanwhile, our Manchester United is still unable to make a single signing, largely because the sale of the club has taken longer than expected. The Glazer family's final decision could come as soon as next week, when it will be known whether Sheikh Jassim Al Thani or tycoon Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be the club's new owner.

That is why Erik ten Hag has not been able to close a deal for any of the players on his target list. Already a year ago, when Erik ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford, he tried to bring in one of his former pupils at Ajax, Frenkie De Jong, with whom he achieved a great season at the Dutch club in which they surprised reaching the Champions League finals.

A year ago, Frenkie De Jong was very close to becoming a member of the Red Devils, particularly due to FC Barcelona's financial crisis. However, the two sides were never able to reach an agreement on the price of the Dutch midfielder, who ended up staying in Spain.

Manchester United would go for De Jong again

This summer Manchester United could resume interest in Frenkie De Jong, particularly because of Erik ten Hag's liking for his former player and because he thinks the team should be reinforced in every position on the field. De Jong is currently valued at 75 million euros, according to the Transfermarkt portal, and also has a contract until 2026 with Barcelona, so the Red Devils will have to come up with a good offer if they want to sign the former Ajax player.
