The heritage of the number nine position at Manchester United has always been strong in the Premier League. From the days of Yorke and Cole to Ruud Van Nistelrooy, to Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie. The list of names is endless. Yet in the last decade since the decline of RVP, the striker position at the club has declined on so many levels.

The club tried different methods whether it be going the young player route with the likes of Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku, and they’ve done the experienced veteran route with the likes of Zlatan, Cavani, and of course the return of Cristiano Ronaldo. Yet none of those guys offered any form of consistency at the position except for one to two good years. United this summer set a goal to put an end to this striker drought and find the solution. Originally everyone thought it would be Harry Kane, but the finances of the club never allowed that. Therefore, United scouts had to do their job and they arrived back to Manchester with one name. Rasmus Hojlund.

The young striker arrived with huge pressure at Manchester United and was given the number 11, but the results were not pretty at first, especially in the Premier League. Rasmus failed to score in his first 14 appearances in the Premier League. However, the case was much different in the Champions League as Rasmus scored five goals in the first four group games including two braces against Galatasaray and Fc Copenhagen. All Rasmus needed to do was turn his fortunes in the league and he could put a promising first campaign.

The fortunes have turned as Rasmus has scored in both of his last two Premier League appearances and against great opposition in Aston Villa and Tottenham. The Villa goal was a match winner that got United a much needed three points, and he scored the opener against Spurs. Now its about keeping this form.
