Manchester United are heading into the direction where selling has become a bigger priority than buying for the short term. Manchester United’s financials have taken a huge hit in the past couple years due to lack of success, and due to the big spending, that has led to nothing. When you spend big, you need to win, otherwise it will have repercussions like Manchester United are facing now. The club is now struggling to stay in line with the sustainability of the Premier League financial rules. This has led to United being hesitant to spend in January when it is clear they need to spend.

The club has seen some departures already this January, albeit not permanent ones like they had hoped they could get. The big departure was Jadon Sancho leaving for Borussia Dortmund on loan. For United this was viewed as a bad look because this was the club, they bought Jadon Sancho from for 72 million pounds less than three years ago and they’re sending him back there for free temporarily. It was reminiscent of Paul Pogba going to Juventus on a free after United pay 90 million pounds for him previously.

United are not done with their departures and hope to now secure some permanent ones to help balance the books better. With a summer that will be considered one of the most important ones in United history, giving themselves the most flexibility possible in terms of finances is something very crucial, and the only way for that is sales.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is one of the players considered the most expendable, as he has one year left on his contract and the club are looking to cash out. Bissaka has done a good job raising his value over the last year and his list of suitors has now grown as opposed to summer 2022.

According to Mike Mcgrath of the Telegraph, Al Nassr have set their eyes on the right back after having a move rejected by Spurs for Emerson Royale. The Saudi club bid 20 million pounds for Emerson, so it will be interesting to see what United demand for their right back.
