After having the best season of his career, Marcus Rashford has failed to repeat his heroics of last season so far in the 23/24 season. After scoring 30 goals and getting 11 assists last season, Rashford has followed that up with a measly 4 goals and 6 assists in all competitions. The difference is huge and a huge reason for United’s struggles.

A change in role for Marcus Rashford has had an effect on his decrease in output as he had to take on a more creative role to accommodate the arrival of Rasmus Højlund to the club this season. Højlund was meant to take some of the goalscoring burden off Marcus, but that has not been the case as the Dane only has two goals in the Premier League. United’s other forwards struggling in terms of output has placed an even greater amount of pressure on the Englishman to start producing weekly.

The criticism of Rashford escalated once he received his new contract this past summer which saw him become the club’s third highest earner behind Raphael Varane and Casemiro. An increase in wages and responsibility has seen a new set of expectations placed on Marcus Rashford from all fans and pundits.

Rashford has seen an uptick in form since returning to the lineup in December after battling illness prior to returning. In his last three Premier League games, the forward has had a goal or assist in each of the three games including a goal and assist in yesterday’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. The partnership between him and Rasmus is looking better and better each week, which can give United fans some hope as the season progresses.
