Erik ten Hag just arrived last summer at Manchester United after being with Ajax for five years. Under his leadership, the team won three Eredivisie titles. He also led them to the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League semi-finals, where they lost to Tottenham after a dramatic second-leg match in Amsterdam.

In 2019, he was named the Dutch Football Manager of the Year. With all these honors backing him, he believes he is entitled to have more control over the squad contract offers, something that the last Manchester United managers haven't had. Recently the board has the final saying on who to offer a new deal at Old Trafford.

Its been reported that the Dutch manager has asked the Manchester United board to hold on offering contract extensions ahead of the winter transfer window. The Dutchman is said to be keen on evaluating which Red Devils are worth keeping. Also, he doesn’t want any of the current squad to be guaranteed their place next season.

What did he say about contract extensions?

This could be a smart move by Ten Hag as it will allow him to assess the current squad and see who he wants to keep beyond this season. This is particularly important because eight Manchester United players are with expiring contracts: Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, and Cristiano Ronaldo among others.
