After today’s away game where Manchester United defeated Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium, Erik ten Hag got his second win in a row in charge of the team. The Dutch manager stuck with the exact same line-up that got him his first win at the club against Liverpool. However, it has been very clear during this week that he is looking for new players.

Throughout this past week, Manchester United have made two proposals to Ajax for the transfer of Antony Matheus. One of €80 million and the latest of €90m, which both got turned down by the Amsterdam club. With the transfer deadline day getting closer, Erik ten Hag was questioned following the game if he could guarantee more signings before the transfer window shuts down.

“I can’t say that. We will be alert until the last second of the transfer market. The transfer window, you don’t know what to expect. We will see. As Manchester United, you always have to try to do better so we can see if we can strengthen the squad, if we not will do with what we’ve got”, he told BT Sport.

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remaining uncertain, and Anthony Martial’s latest Achilles injury, it is very clear that the Red Devils need to sign some new forwards before the next match against Leicester City on September 1st, the day after the transfer window ends. Hopefully, the new manager can get the players he wants in order to build a winning team.

The possible transfers

Besides Antony remaining as Erik ten Hag’s priority on the attack since April, Cody Gakpo is another player that has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. In most recent days, reports are suggesting that Memphis Depay could be making his return to Manchester after Barcelona are desperate to sell him because of their financial situation.
