Manchester United and England fans were excited about their team's chances following the ruthless dispatching of Iran in the first group game of the World Cup campaign. The fans were pumped about what they believed was their moment to write history with their star-studded team.

United's England trio of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Marcus Rashford all featured in the game for the Three Lions as they fought it out in every duel and ball across the pitch. Maguire continued his solid performance at the heart of the defense and canceled out all USA attacking threats.

England who dominated much of the first half were pinned back in the second half as the USA relentlessly threw all their energy into keeping up the tempo of the game. Marcus Rashford was brought on late in the game to infuse more attacking threats and break the USA backline.

Rashford persevered for his moment in the game and was presented an opportunity but his effort on goal lacked any potency to disturb the USA goalie. They were then presented with a set-piece chance in injury time, which saw Luke Shaw deliver a beautiful cross into the box but the header missed the target.

WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED TO ENGLAND?

It was a lackluster performance from the Three Lion all around but some players, especially Harry Maguire stood out in style. With England snatched at their chances upfront, Maguire nullified all the opposition ball in England's territory, with some breathtaking defensive masterpieces to ensure they were still in the game. The Three Lions need just a draw against Wales to qualify for the next round of the World Cup.
