Manchester United's US tour begins to take shape after Tuesday's announcement that the Reds will take on Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas on Sunday, July 30. The last time United met Dortmund was in 2016 when the two teams met in Shanghai during the Reds' tour of China.

Led by Jose Mourinho, United would battle the heat while the Bundesliga giants put the Portuguese coach's team to the knife. Gonzalo Castro would give Dortmund the lead after goalkeeper Sam Johnstone spilled a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang free kick. Aubameyang then made two shortly after the 35-minute mark by converting a penalty after a handball from Antonio Valencia.

Ousmane Dembele would arrive at three before the hour mark after giving Marcos Rojo a hard time. United would respond quickly through Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but the game ended as a contest when Castro scored late to complete the 4-1 victory.

As with most friends, the commentary after the final whistle was more important than the football played in the sweltering conditions. Mourinho's initial assessment was that he could learn very little from a game against a team that was more prepared than United.

Pogba remains in Italy

The signing of the midfielder from Juventus would be sealed the following month and at the time it was announced as the missing piece in Mourinho's puzzle. History could now repeat itself this summer with Erik ten Hag.
