The Manchester United academy player will return to the team where he was loaned out last season

Before the transfer window closed, Birmingham City announced the signing of Tahith Chong from Manchester United after they reached an agreement with the Old Trafford side for the permanent move of the young player. The Blues won the race for the 22-year-old winger as other Championship clubs were also interested in signing him from United.

Manchester United will receive £1.45 million for the transfer of the Netherlands player. The English giants have also added a 25% sell-on clause, which means that the Red Devils will gain an important percentage of a future sale of Chong in case Birmingham City decide to sell him in the future. This was a smart decision from the United board.

Tahith Chong will be heading back to St Andrew’s where he played last season, only this time, he will stay there permanently. During his loan spell last campaign, the Dutch player left a positive impression on the team and its fans after playing 22 games where he scored 2 goals and handed out 4 assists. After that, he became one of the team's top targets this summer.

There will be a Manchester United academy players’ reunion at Birmingham City this season after Tahith Chong reunites with Hannibal Mejbri. The Tunisian midfielder will spend the rest of the campaign on loan with the Championship team. During his presentation two days ago, Mejbri said that he had heard good things about the club from friends, most likely referring to Chong.

An exciting prospect

The Dutch winger joined Manchester United’s academy back in 2016 where he was shining with the U-18 team before he suffered a serious injury that took him out of action for 10 months. He recovered and returned just the way he had left and won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in 2018. Sadly, he never made an impact on the senior team.
