Erik Ten Hag said in the aftermath of Manchester United's 2-1 win against Barcelona at Old Trafford that he was very impressed with Fred's impact in the game. He attributed Fred to a mosquito as he persistently marked out Frenkie De Jong from dictating play for Barcelona.

It was Manchester United's major strategy and Fred put in a performance worthy of his glorious praise after the game. With Frenkie De Jong shaken off his influence, Barcelona was lethargic in making any progress in the game as they crumbled under the hostile cheers of United fans.

Though the win was delightful for Ten Hag, the decision to mark out De Jong should just highly rated he is by the Dutch manager for him to be fearful of his control of the game. Erik Ten Hag previously worked with Frenkie De Jong during his time at Ajax before the midfielder moved to Spain.

Following Ten Hag's move to Manchester United, the Red Devils pursued Frenkie De Jong throughout the summer transfer window but were persistently turned down by the Barca star despite his unhealthy situation with Barcelona at the time.

What action is Ten Hag taking now?

According to MailSport, Barcelona has been banned from the summer transfer market and can only buy players if they can raise 178 million pounds. This latest development gives Manchester United's manager more greenlit to make another pursuit for Frenkie De Jong due to Barca's financial crisis as remains adamant about signing him.
