Cristiano Ronaldo had hoped to score today in a bid to thank Ten Hag for giving him four consecutive starts in a row this season at Villa Park, but the Portuguese looked dejected at the final whistle as United left the manager and fan down after an impressive run.

The Portuguese player was constantly taunted by the Villa defenders as they tried to wind him up in the final few minutes of the game, which saw him fire blank in front of the goal once again. The star man has only found the back of the net thrice this season and has been itching to add to his tally.

Cristiano can't get enough of missing goals, Erik ten Hag to make this decision

Ronaldo had a set-piece opportunity in the game but his attempt was easily blocked up by the defending wall, with United unable to fully test Emiliano Martinez. Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa made it extremely difficult for Ronaldo to get any opening in the entire match.

The Portugal captain picked up a yellow card during the game after a run-in with one of the Villa defenders. His performance today was a letdown compared to his recent matches that have seen him force his way back into Ten Hag's matchday squad.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR RONALDO?

Although it was a rocky start for Ronaldo under Ten Hag, the pair seem to have stuck the happy chord of late, with Ronaldo starting four consecutive games in a round providing a goal and assist in that period. Although his goals have been coming frequently, Ten Hag has continued to back his star player as often as possible.
