The Portuguese star had his contract mutually terminated just a few days after the club season was halted for the World Cup as a result of  a media interview that he conducted, which subsequently reduced United attacking threat drastically.

Erik Ten Hag has in recent weeks confirmed that United's primary focus in the coming window is to bring in a new striker. The club is believed to have decided to pursue the signature of PSV's club captain Cody Gakpo following his exploits so far in this campaign. According to the latest reports, a deal of around 45 million euros is PSV's expectation for their star player.
