Raphaël Varane was hardly missed in Manchester United's 1-0 win against West Ham United at Old Trafford as the backline put in a fantastic display, much to the satisfaction of the home crowd. United was in full control for the first half of the game we saw them put West Ham to the ground with a Marcus Rashford goal with a few minutes to the break.

The backline of United was rarely tested for much of the first half as the Red Devils, exert their dominance in waves of attacking threats. Club captain Harry Maguire made his first premier league start in a long while, as he partnered Lisandro Martinez “the Butcher” at the heart of United's defense alongside Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw.

Ten Hag's men continue fine run of form with Old Trafford win

The Englishman replaced injured Varane, who is out for the rest of the games before the World Cup and putting in a very convincing performance against David Moyes's men. The attacking threats of West Ham were easily nullified by Ten Hag's setup for the match, which as Maguire shone once more a smile on his face at the sound of the final whistle.

In a campaign, where many fans have called him out for his in-game concentration at the start of the season, it was quite the turnaround yesterday as many fans applauded his improvement. The newly shaped backline pairing of Maguire and Lisandro is expected to further build on United's five games clean sheet so far in the Premier League.
