The new manager is really happy with what he has seen from his team after that shocking defeat two weeks ago

Right after the final whistle in today’s match against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium, Erik ten Hag talked to the press in a post-match interview with BT Sport, where he reviewed the game after obtaining his second win in a row in charge of Manchester United. However, the new manager hasn’t quite forgotten about that 4-0 defeat against Brentford.

He believes they have learned a tough lesson: “I think we did a lot better than against Brentford. I saw the team on the pitch, good organization, fight for each other, following the rules and I think there were also some really good moments from playing football. We played a really good possession game and scored a wonderful goal”.

The Dutchman keeps insisting that his players didn’t do the basics the last time they traveled out: “They now understand that they have to act as a team, unified. That they have to give 100%, 99% is not enough. They have to fight for every ball and if you do that then you have a good base to win games, and I think you saw that today”.

It looks like the former Ajax manager has finally turned things around at Manchester United after a very complicated start with two losses in his first two games in charge of the team. Erik ten Hag made some adjustments against Liverpool, which proved him right since they got a win against their fiercest rivals. Now he hopes to keep this momentum rolling for as long as possible.

There is still work to be done

Even though things are starting to look good at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag and the club’s board should really focus on signing the players that the manager believes could help and improve the team before the transfer window closes on September 1st, which is also the same day the Red Devils will face Leicester City in their next fixture.
